Leopold Stokowski is known for his expressive conducting style, but audience members couldn’t see the detailed approach he took to draw emotions out of the music with his eyes. Nancy Shear, Stokowski’s musical assistant, reflects on the famous former music director’s intention to always serve the drama of the music.
