Succession of the title of music director comes with many responsibilities, from upholding traditions to pushing boundaries to evolve the Orchestra’s sound and reputation. Former Music Director Riccardo Muti brought a fresh approach to the “Philadelphia Sound,” opting to craft a sound that stylistically represented a composer’s unique perspective, informed by their writing, culture, and traditions.
