A 19-time GRAMMY® winner who has performed for nine American presidents and has been presented with the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, cellist Yo-Yo Ma is a phenomenal musician whose unshakeable joy shines through his virtuosic performances. He will perform the Dvořák Cello Concerto, a work for which he is renowned; his definitive recordings of the piece are treasured by music lovers.

For more than half a century, cellist Yo-Yo Ma has represented the peak of musical artistry, yet its his genial nature, curious mind, and approachability that have made him one of the most beloved figures on the international stage.

He began studying the cello at age four; at nine he made his Carnegie Hall debut and at 23 he won the coveted Avery Fisher Prize. He has made 120+ recordings and collaborated with artists across genres including Bobby McFerrin, Carlos Santana, Diana Krall, and many more. His imaginative spirit has embraced all kinds of music, including his iconic Silk Road Ensemble.

This one-night-only program opens with Mahler's serenely lovely Fourth Symphony. Mendelssohn's travels through Italy inspired a burst of creativity; this much-loved Symphony vividly evokes his experiences, from the coronation of a pope to sketches of ancient architecture, picturesque countryside, and the sun-burnished Mediterranean. Mendelssohn himself described this work as "blue sky in A major."
