Lang Lang

The musicians of The Philadelphia Orchestra are graciously donating their services for this concert.

There are artists who seize the public imagination, and perhaps none has done so as spectacularly as Lang Lang. Whether hes performing for billions, as at the 2008 Olympics Opening Ceremony, or for a small group of school children, his artistry and passion is on full display. In this one-night-only engagement, the celebrated pianist joins Yannick and the Orchestra in Beethovens lyrical Piano Concerto No. 4.

Tickets are flying for this concert; order now to avoid missing out.

Its the stuff of classic movies: an established star falls ill and standing in the wings is a young prodigy. Thats how Lang Lang burst upon the international music scene, when at age 17 he was called upon to fill in for an ailing André Watts ... and the rest is history. That was 25 years, millions of records, and hundreds of concerts ago, including performances for United States presidents, Pope Francis, and Queen Elizabeth II. Join the royal ranks of Lang Lang fans in this must-hear performance!

What a world can be conjured from just three notes! All of the melodic glory of Brahmss Second Symphony grows from three notes played by the basses and cellos, blossoming as the horns, winds, and remaining strings join in. Brahms famously thought of himself as having a melancholy nature, but though storms threaten in the themes of this beautiful work, the luminous finale sends the listener home on a cloud of ecstatic joy.

Post-concert Event

Lang Lang will be signing CDs in the Plaza following the concert. CDs can be purchased at the Orchestra pop-up shop near the Spruce Street doors in the Plaza.
