More than an orchestra, this ensemble is a piece of living music history, a continuum of excellence from its beginnings in 1981 to the present. Over those years, what started as a group of young musicians developed working relationships with some of the most highly regarded artists in the classical world, including Claudio Abbado, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Simon Rattle, András Schiff, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The orchestra’s festival performances are legendary, and its recordings, more than 250 works strong, have won numerous international prizes, including two GRAMMYs and three Gramophone Record of the Year Awards.
