Stravinsky’s career-launching Firebird ballet score, performed in its entirety, alongside Béla Bartók’s brooding and mysterious Second Violin Concerto, a poignant farewell to his homeland, performed by First Associate Concertmaster Juliette Kang.
As brilliantly colored as the imagined plumage of its namesake mythical creature, The Firebird ballet score launched Igor Stravinsky’s career; the cheering audience at its Paris premiere included such luminaries as Marcel Proust, Sarah Bernhardt and Claude Debussy.
Alongside this richly hued pair of masterworks you’ll hear Béla Bartók’s brooding, mysterious Second Violin Concerto, a beautiful farewell to his homeland, written in dark days as Nazi fervor engulfed his beloved Hungary.
