The Philadelphia Orchestra Appoints Jack Grimm as Second Trombone

(Philadelphia, November 18, 2024)The Philadelphia Orchestra and Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin are pleased to welcome Jack Grimm as second trombone, beginning November 18, 2024. 

 

“Jack is an incredible musician, and we are thrilled to have him join the Orchestra’s world-class brass section,” said Nézet-Séguin. “With several new musicians joining our Philadelphia Orchestra family this season, the future is looking extremely bright. I look forward to experiencing Jack’s contributions to our signature sound.” 

 

Prior to his appointment, Grimm was principal trombone of the Columbus Symphony, Harrisburg Symphony, and Quad City Symphony. He is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he studied with Michael Mulcahy, Doug Wright, Tim Higgins, Randy Hawes, and Christopher Davis. At Northwestern, he performed in the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Big Band. He has performed and recorded with the DW Jazz Orchestra, Brian Eng Jazz Orchestra, and Andy Baker Orchestra. He was a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival in 2023, performing on trombone and bass trumpet with the Aspen Festival Orchestra. In addition to symphonic music, he enjoys performing in big bands and musical theater pits and pursues writing and arranging music for big band and New Orleans-style brass band projects.
