Hsiang-Hsin Ching

Violas

Hsiang-Hsin Ching, a Taiwanese violist and AES Gold Award–winning recording engineer, joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in May 2025. She holds a bachelor’s degree in recording arts and sciences and viola performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in viola performance under the guidance of Philadelphia Orchestra Principal Viola Choong-Jin Chang.

Ms. Ching has appeared as a fellow at such festivals as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Taipei Music Academy and Festival, the Aspen School of Music and Festival, and the New York String Orchestra. She has performed as a guest musician with The Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony in C.

As a chamber musician, Ms. Ching has performed in various venues including the Embassy of the Czech Republic, Meyerhoff Auditorium, Friedberg Hall, and the Van Cliburn Concert Hall with the Nosremé Quartet as the quartet-in-residence of the Texas Chamber Music Institute. She is also an alum of the Taos School of Music and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. She won First Prize in the 2024 Mary Graham Lesley Concerto Competition and Third Prize in the 2024 Yale Gordon Competition; she was also a quarter finalist in the prestigious Primrose International Viola Competition in 2024.

Ms. Ching is currently serving as the musician-in-residence at Roland Park Place retirement community, bringing music and joy to the residents. Her performances have been featured in numerous venues across Europe, Asia, and the United States. With her diverse musical experiences and dedication to her craft, she continues to make a profound impact as a performer, collaborator, and musician.
